About the Job

The Application Architect (Academic Applications) at SUSS plays a pivotal role to drive the development and implementation of the architecture of academic applications to support the learner lifecycle, from applicant, student, alumni to lifelong learner. You are required to have a deep understanding of the systems that support academic processes, software development principles, technology trends and industry best practices. You are responsible to define, create and implement the overall application architecture strategy while delivering strategic projects that adhere to the established application architecture standards and frameworks.

What You Will be Doing

Key Responsibilities:

  • Refine and implement application architecture strategy to align application systems with business objectives, ensuring it supports the organisation’s growth and transformation initiatives.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends to incorporate into the organisation’s architecture; and lead the evaluation and adoption of new tools, technologies and methodologies.
  • Define and enforce architectural standards and guidelines including the maintenance of consistent application development practices, promote code quality, reusability and scalability.
  • Design and enforce integration strategies to optimise data flow and system interactions across the academic applications.
  • Evaluate and recommend data management standards, technologies and tools to optimise solutions.
  • Collaborate with business and IT stakeholders to understand their needs and identify opportunities for process improvements, automation and actionable architecture solutions.
  • Manages procurement, preparation and publishing tender specifications, evaluating and recommending potential solutions and/or vendors, contract management etc. 
  • Oversees the delivery of strategic programs/projects to ensure adherence to established application architect standards and frameworks. 
  • Provides technical leadership and guidance to implementation team.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement and innovation within the team.
  • Effectively communicate and build rapport with team members, stakeholders and working groups.

Job Requirements

  • Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer Engineering or equivalent.
  • At least 15 years within the IT industry, with strong track record of successful project delivery.
  • Deep understanding of various enterprise application platforms, technologies, and industry standards. 
  • Experience in managing cross-departmental projects and projects with a budget of over $200K.
  • Experience in vendor management including negotiating vendor contracts.
  • Proven experience in enterprise solution development and implementation.
  • Experience in designing, developing and deploying large, scalable production applications on cloud/PaaS platforms and containers, such as AWS and Azure.
  • Project experience in API-based architecture and design with strong design knowledge
  • Knowledge of applicable processes, methodologies, standards, products and frameworks. 
  • Proficient in software development methodologies (Agile, Waterfall, etc) and software development life cycle (SDLC). 
  • Strong business process and analytical skills with the ability to assimilate information quickly and communicate complex requirements and issues clearly and concisely. The ability to understand the business questions that users are trying to answer is essential.
  • Strong oral, written and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to interact and communicate effectively with all levels of management, users and vendors.
  • Must be a self-starter and able to work independently with minimum supervision.
  • Must be a good team player, proactive in nature, fast learner, highly organised and positive attitude.
  • Certification in PMP or CITPM will be an added advantage. 
  • Experience in the Higher Education industry is a bonus.
