Assistant Manager (Learning Innovation Advocate)

The Institute for Adult Learning (IAL), an autonomous institute of the Singapore University of Social Sciences, is at the forefront of building capabilities and continuing professional development for an effective, innovative, and responsive TAE sector. Innovation Centre (IC), a division under IAL, leads the learning innovation with and for the Training and Adult Education (TAE) sector through programmes and initiatives. The Centre’s objective is to advance the development, proliferation and adoption of proven innovative learning solutions. IC is made up of 3 teams – (i) Adoption and Acceleration, (ii) Exploration and Development and (iii) Innovation Support Services.

Job Responsibilities

Reporting to the Principal Manager, Adoption and Acceleration, the position works with the various Programme Managers (PMs) in meeting the centre’s objectives to advance the development, proliferation, and adoption of proven innovative learning solutions. The appointee will be part of the team to conduct evaluation of grant proposals to ascertain their innovation value and eligibility for funding support. The appointee will develop and implement the innovation sandbox and go-to-market strategy for proven Minimum Marketable Product (MMP) learning solutions that could lead to their readiness and acceptability for wider adoption in the larger learning and development community. The appointee will be responsible for developing and sustaining a strong pipeline of contents for the innovation microsite as part of providing resources to support such wider adoption. The appointee should therefore be familiar with the training and adult education landscape and is adept at leveraging market and business-related research studies to support adoption efforts. The appointee is expected to work effectively cross teams and collaborate to synergise the different programmes to better achieve intended outcomes.

 

Key activities related to these responsibilities include:

  1. Assist the PM to strategise, develop and implement outreach and engagement plans that will attract high-quality grant applicants with innovative learning solutions for the programmes under the Innovation Centre (IC).
  2. Develop marketing and content strategies across different media platforms (eg website, social media channels, newsletters) to drive engagement with stakeholders
  3. Develop and produce impactful and engaging marketing materials and microsite contents, including identify and collaborate with subject matter experts to create such contents.
  4. Manage prospecting and relationship development of partners and TAE stakeholders and turn opportunities into tangible outcomes.
  5. Evaluate grant applicant proposals: conduct / review market studies, product competitiveness, product-market strategy, risk mitigations and assess consumer readiness to accept solutions to improve adoption.
  6. Support and work with the Programme Manager to market the Regulatory Sandbox.
  7. Additional duties may be assigned, and functions may be modified, according to business necessity.

Job Requirements

  • A master's or bachelor’s degree, preferably in the Social Sciences, innovation and/or business management, education technology, or learning sciences. 
  • Minimally 5-8 years of working experience in education and adult learning and training sectors; or a related role in Business Development / Corporate Development / Strategic Planning with good experience in market research, project and contract management. Any combination of these areas is a strong plus.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work effectively with stakeholders, possessing strong communication skills (written and verbal) to engage and influence stakeholders of all levels of seniority.
  • Possess prior experience in the Training and Adult Education (TAE) sector is highly preferred.
  • Possess experience in facilitating and enabling commercialisation of products and services.
  • Display strong presentation and communication skills, including the ability to prepare effective presentation materials for senior management on deals.
  • Demonstrate strong systems thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to connect the dots to develop a deeper appreciation of current and emerging key issues and exercising good judgement to provide sound recommendations. 
  • Possess an ability to work independently and as a member of a team
  • Demonstrate an ability in meeting deadlines and delivering on KPIs.
  • The successful appointee will be based in IAL Campus located at Lifelong Learning Institute next to Paya Lebar MRT station.
