Deputy Director, Innovation Centre

Who we are

The Institute for Adult Learning (IAL), an autonomous institute of the Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS), is at the forefront of building capabilities and offering continuing professional development for an effective, innovative and responsive Training and Adult Education (TAE) sector.

 

The Innovation Centre (IC) at IAL was set up to nurture a learning innovation ecosystem so as to catalyse learning innovation in Singapore’s TAE sector. It does so by providing a common platform where the TAE professionals come together as a community to explore and innovate learning solutions as well as co-develop and commercialise learning innovations.

About the role

The Deputy Director supports and reports to the Director of the Innovation Centre to lead and sustain the Centre’s programmes and initiatives, ensuring their relevance and efficacy to meet their corresponding objectives and contributing to efforts to raise the quality and standards of adult learning and teaching in Singapore.

 

The successful appointee will be based in IAL Campus located at Lifelong Learning Institute at Paya Lebar.

Job Purpose

 

  1. Conceptualise new programmes and initiatives to strengthen and increase impact in nurturing the innovation ecosystem and culture within the larger community, particularly in translating learning innovations into feasible, implementable solutions for wider adoption and proliferation of sound practices and solutions.
  2. Strategise implementation and evaluation of programmes, initiatives, collaborative approaches to better embed innovation activities and improvement cycles
  3. Cultivate and maintain partnerships with a diverse range of sector stakeholders, including Training Providers, enterprise L&D practitioners, Institutes of Higher Learning (IHLs) and educational-technology solutionists
  4. Lead and oversee the teams on the following:

    1. Provide advisory and consultancy services to incubate and accelerate the adoption of learning innovation
    2. Develop and curate technology-enabled resources and showcase innovative learning practices to facilitate adoption
    3. Implement and disseminate an intel scalable strategy to enable an evidence informed action plan to realise the national and IAL's innovation objectives, that could encompass action research, case studies and monitoring and measurement framework
    4. Collaborate with other divisions within IAL to explore and create IAL's intellectual property in adult education through in-house experimentation projects in new learning solutions, products, processes or pedagogies
    5. Manage an evaluation framework to ascertain the centre's contribution and impact on the innovation culture of the wider community
    6. Supervise teams in grant and finance management, tactical workplan, oversee progress for key milestones implementation to achieve goals and objectives.

        5.  Any other duties, including cross divisional projects.

Job Requirements

  • Master’s or relevant post graduate qualifications equivalent
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in related fields of adult learning and education technology, preferably in programme conceptualization, evaluation and improvement, and operational management of innovation activities and initiatives, e.g. incubator or accelerator
  • Strong analytical skills and proven ability to set and achieve strategic objectives through performance management as well as evaluate and achieve partnerships to promote innovation efforts
  • Proven track record in establishing partnerships to deliver on corporate objectives and key performance indicators, analysing emerging industry applications of learning technology
  • Proven people management capabilities, with strong networking and interpersonal skills and the ability to coach, engage and motivate staff to achieve organisational goals
  • Strong strategic, analytical thinking and sense-making capabilities to drive innovative capability development initiatives
  • Resilient and adaptable to change in a fast-paced environment that requires multi-tasking
  • Ability to communicate, negotiate and network effectively through excellent interpersonal, written, verbal and presentation skills
