Who We Are

The Institute for Adult Learning (IAL), an autonomous institute of the Singapore University of Social Sciences, is at the forefront of building capabilities and continuing professional development for an effective, innovative and responsive adult learning ecosystem in support of the objectives of SkillsFuture.

About The Job

A key focus of the collaboratory is to guide communities in innovating solutions in adult learning, empowering them to conduct their own experiments in authentic settings, guided by specific protocols established by the ALC through a distributed experimentation approach.

The Head (Experimentation) will strategise and lead these distributed experiments in the ALC using non-conventional methodologies. The appointee will design experiment protocols, coach and guide ALC stakeholder communities in conducting experiments, collect and analyse data—including accessible analytics outputs—and collaboratively report on the experiment outcomes. This reporting will encompass both academic and non-academic outputs.

In this position, the appointee will report to the Deputy Director of the Research Division and work closely with the Head of Ecosystem and a team of industry specialists to engage stakeholders in community solutioning and experimentation.

What You Will Be Doing

The responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Strategize and Lead Experimental Research: Develop and direct distributed experimental research within the ALC. This involves designing experiment protocols tailored to the unique needs of authentic settings, based on thematic projects championed in the ALC. Part of the protocol includes experimentation playbooks that provide ideas to support the ALC community to conduct joint experimentation.
  • Guide and Enable Community Experiments: Guide stakeholder communities in innovation and the actual conduct of experiments in their authentic settings. This involves providing support in experiment designs that are meaningful to their authentic settings, building up their capabilities, and guiding them in ethical practices throughout the process.
  • Lead in Data Collection, Analysis and Analytics: Develop and implement effective data collection and analysis methods tailored to the unique contexts of distributed experiments. This includes the use of analytics that are capable of generating insights that are easily accessible and actionable for community stakeholders.
  • Share Results: Produce academic and non-academic outputs to share results widely with the community, including to support scaling of innovations that are found to be effective.
  • Project Management: Oversee the overall budget, production of outputs, and reporting in the ALC.

  • Strategic thinking and influencing skills, and strong learning agility
  • Strong experimental research and analytical skills, with an enthusiasm for methodological innovations that can enable community solutioning and experimentation
