About the Job

Singapore University of Social Sciences is one of Singapore's six autonomous universities and its mission is to provide lifelong education that equips learners to serve society. Home to more than 15,000 students, SUSS provides an applied education that targets both fresh school leavers and adult learners, with a focus on the social sciences. It adopts a flexible and practice-focused learning approach and offers more than 70 degree programmes in various disciplines. Applications are invited for an open-rank faculty position in the area of Early Childhood (Chinese) at the Singapore University of Social Sciences.

The successful candidate will join the Bachelor of Early Childhood and Chinese Language Education Programme cluster in the S R Nathan School of Human Development and will be expected to teach and conduct research in Early Childhood (Chinese) and closely related fields.

Job Description

Job Responsibilities

  • Teach courses related to Early Childhood Chinese Language Education (e.g., language development, curriculum design, pedagogy, assessment, and multicultural language instruction)
  • Design, manage, and review curriculum and teaching materials
  • Supervise student projects, practicum placements, and teaching practice
  • Conduct academic and/or applied research in areas such as early language acquisition, Chinese literacy development, or bilingual/multilingual education
  • Contribute to service and outreach efforts within and outside the university, including collaborations with preschools, community partners, and teacher professional development programmes

Job Requirements

  • A PhD in Early Childhood Education, or a related field (candidates nearing completion of their PhD may also be considered)
  • Experience in teaching Chinese language to young children and/or adult learners
  • Familiarity with the preschool education landscape in Singapore
  • Prior experience in curriculum development, teacher education, or related research will be an added advantage
