About The Job
The Librarian will be part of a lean team, working collaboratively to deliver timely access to information resources and services that support the learning, teaching, and research activities of the SUSS community.
Job Description
- Source, evaluate and select library resources comprising books, serials, audio-visual materials, and databases for purchase/subscription/licensing.
- Cataloguing and physical processing of library resources.
- Collection development and maintenance activities that include disposal and replacement of resources.
- Promotion of library resources to increase awareness and usage.
- Collaborate with publishers, vendors and aggregators, and other stakeholders to configure platform settings for access to resources.
- Serve as administrator for content platforms. Analyse, monitor, and review usage of library resources.
- Manage the institutional repository and promote its usage through regular outreach activities.
- Review the submissions in the repository and enhance the metadata to increase the discoverability of resources.
- Develop guidelines, procedures, FAQs on the repository to ensure operational efficiency and compliance.
- Conduct workshops or training sessions to inform users on how to deposit and manage their works.
- Advise users on Open Access publishing, publisher embargo policies, and copyright issues.
- Collaborate with vendor to maintain and upkeep repository.
- Monitor usage of and report on the use of the Repository.
- Identify and evaluate emerging trends and developments relevant to academic libraries and higher education, particularly in the areas of acquisitions, electronic resources lifecycle management, resource sharing, and recommend best practices.
- Create and maintain content such as subject guides, and other web content to support faculty and student research needs.
- Perform other departmental and or organisational duties as necessary or assigned.
- Supervise team members and develop training plans for staff.
- Engage in continuous professional development and serve the library and University through representation in internal and external committees.
- Provide research assistance and other onsite and online library services and operations as required.
Job Requirements
- Postgraduate qualification in library science or information management.
- Recognized degree.
- 3-5 years of experience in acquisitions, serials, and electronic resource management as well as the provision of library services such as research support and outreach services, preferably in an academic library setting.
- Proficient with library management systems (e.g. Alma), finance systems, electronic resource management systems, linking, and authentication.
- Familiarity with management of an institutional repository
- Excellent analytical, organizational, project management, and critical thinking skills.
- Highly service-oriented with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail.
- 2-3 years of experience in a management/ supervisory role.
- Ability to work independently as well as foster teamwork and collaborated with internal and external parties.
