Research Aim and Contribution

In this study, we aim to examine the educational functions served by immersive technologies across disciplinary contexts through a multiple-case comparative study. In so doing, we seek to develop a typology of educational functions served by immersive technologies to guide curriculum designers of higher education in choosing and designing immersive experiences based on educational intent rather than technology alone.

  • Conduct a literature review on immersive technologies in higher education, including their educational functions, pedagogical applications, and learning outcomes.
  • Assist in developing a coding framework based on the literature review to guide the analysis of immersive technology projects.
  • Support the development and refinement of student survey instruments to examine perceived learning outcomes.
  • Assist in collecting, organising, and managing research data, including project documentation, interviews, and student survey responses.
  • Support qualitative data analysis, including coding project documents and interview transcripts to identify educational functions and pedagogical practices.
  • Assist in quantitative data analysis of survey responses
  • Assist in preparing research summaries, reports, presentations, and other research-related materials.
  • Perform other research-related duties as assigned by the Principal Investigator.
