About The Job
The Data Warehouse Developer is critical in managing and optimising the University’s data warehouse to meet its current and future business intelligence and reporting needs.
This individual collaborates with the Data Architect Specialist and other units to uphold and enhance the technical efficacy of the BI&A Data Warehouse, balancing current operational demands with forward-looking technology strategies.
Job Description
- Plan, develop, and script ETL processes for both cloud and on-premise data warehouses, and perform ETL unit and development testing.
- Design automation processes to control data access, ensure data availability and integrity and optimise data integration across cloud and on-premise environments.
- Conduct performance tuning of end-to-end integration processes within source/target databases in cloud and on-premise systems.
- Design and implement unit tests and prepare test data for solutions in both environments.
- Investigate and resolve data issues promptly in cloud and on-premise data warehouses.
- Monitor data warehouse operations and provide subject matter expertise to support maintenance and ongoing enhancements in both cloud and on-premise platforms.
- Define and implement security requirements for the data warehouse across cloud and on-premise environments.
- Collaborate with stakeholders on business intelligence (BI) and analytics requirements, leveraging cloud capabilities and on-premise systems.
- Conduct feasibility studies, facilitate BI and analytics projects, and ensure successful delivery in both environments.
- Ensure project timelines are met within cost and quality guidelines, considering cloud and on-premise resource allocation.
- Ensure IT compliance with corporate governance, best practices, and University policies in cloud and on-premise contexts.
- Attend relevant training and development courses focused on cloud technologies and participate in University-wide activities.
- Perform other tasks and activities as supervisors assign, supporting initiatives in cloud and on-premise data warehouses.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, IT, Data Science, or related field from a recognised university.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in data warehousing, across cloud and on-premise environments.
- Strong experience in SQL/coding, database administration, QA testing, and data warehouse monitoring.
- Solid knowledge of dimensional modelling and data warehouse design principles.
- Hands-on experience with cloud platforms such as AWS Redshift, Azure Synapse Analytics, or Google BigQuery.
- Experience with ETL tools such as AWS Glue, Azure Data Factory, or IBM Infosphere DataStage.
- Familiar with BI and reporting tools such as Power BI, MicroStrategy, or similar.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate complex data into actionable insights.
- Good communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work across technical and business teams.
- Detail-oriented, adaptable, and committed to data quality and best practices.
