About The Job

The Institute for Adult Learning (IAL), an autonomous institute of the Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS), is at the forefront of building capabilities and offering continuing professional development for an effective, innovative and responsive Training and Adult Education (TAE) sector.

We invite applications from suitably qualified and experienced accountants for the position of Senior Executive. The successful candidate will work closely with the Principal Manager, Finance and Resource Planning, and collaborate with managers within the department and across the Institute.

What You Will Be Doing

The appointee will undertake the following responsibilities, as well as other duties that may be assigned by Management to support organisational requirements.

  • Prepare and manage accounting transactions for IAL including preparation and posting of journal entries, reconciliations, and schedules to support accurate and timely monthly-end and year-end closing in compliance with the institution’s financial governance framework, policies and procedures, as well as applicable accounting standards
  • Work closely with divisions across IAL to monitor and review the Institute’s income, expenditure, and budgets, providing financial analysis and highlighting variances to support prudent financial management.
  • Prepare the Institute’s financial statements (including balance sheet and profit & loss accounts) and other financial reports in accordance with reporting schedules and stakeholder requirements. Support statutory audits by ensuring proper documentation, audit schedules, and timely resolution of audit queries.
  • Maintain an up-to-date fixed asset register for IAL and ensure effective and efficient management, tracking, and utilisation of the Institute’s fixed assets and resources.
  • Monitor IAL’s funding and cash flow requirements to support operational needs and the achievement of strategic outcomes set by SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG). Coordinate with SSG on funding utilisation and the disbursement of funds for IAL on a quarterly basis, or as required.
  • Undertake other duties, including participation in cross-divisional projects, as assigned by Management from time to time to support organisational priorities and staff capability development.

Job Requirements

  • At least 3 years of relevant work experience in accounting, financial management, budgetary planning and control and management reporting.  
  • Candidates must be able to prepare a full set of financial statements.  
  • Experiences gained from an established educational or training institution with CET programme offerings or services is preferred, but not mandatory 
  • A good understanding of educational business operations and the roles of CET or lifelong learning initiatives in the Singapore economic environment, and with some experiences in managing government grants, subsidies will be an advantage.  
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to details, and deadline oriented.  
  • Strong oral and written communication, and inter-personal skills and be able to work collaboratively as a team with other colleagues and stakeholders to achieve the organizational goals and objectives 
  • Tertiary education.  A bachelor university degree in accountancy or a professional membership of the Institute of Singapore Chartered Accountants (ISCA) is preferred.  Candidates without the required qualifications but possess the relevant experience and required skills will also be considered. 

 

The successful appointee will be based in IAL Campus located at Lifelong Learning Institute next to Paya Lebar MRT station.
