Specialist (Career Development)

The Student SUcceSS Centre (SSC) would like to invite dynamic and collaborative individuals to apply for this exciting role in nurturing young Singaporeans to become professionally competent and contributing citizen who is employment ready and able to make responsible and ethical career choices and decisions.  

 

You will be supporting the Career Development Office in the engagement of SUSS stakeholders, locally and overseas, to strengthen academic-industry relations and to identify work attachment/internship and employment opportunities for SUSS students. You will also play a part in the assessment and development of SUSS students, providing mentorship and guidance in their acquisition of professional skill sets and career choices.

 

This role is pivotal in shaping the futures of young Singaporeans by providing dedicated career coaching and advisory services. The specialist will focus on students participating in the 12-month local/overseas Work-study degree programme across various disciplines. Additionally, the role involves significant participation in committees for key institutional surveys (Graduate Employment Survey, Tracer Survey, Employer Perception Survey, etc.), with a strategic focus on improving survey response rates and enhancing the perception of our graduates' skills in the job market.

 

We are looking for candidates who are not only skilled in career coaching but are also adept at handling data, with a strong ability to analyze survey results and implement strategies for continuous improvement.

Job Description

The successful candidate will support the Head, Career Development to manage and drive all assigned projects and functions so as to ensure the effective operations of the Office.

 

  • Provide career coaching and advisory services to students enrolled in the 12-month local/overseas Work-study degree programme, guiding them across different disciplines.

  • Serve on committees for various institutional surveys, such as the Graduate Employment Survey, Tracer Survey, and Employer Perception Survey.

  • Develop and implement strategies to increase survey response rates and enhance the market perception of our graduates' skills and competencies.

  • Analyse survey data to identify trends, challenges, and opportunities, informing future career development initiatives and programming.

  • Collaborate with academic departments and industry partners to ensure the relevance and effectiveness of career coaching and advisory services.

  • Organize workshops and programmes aimed at improving students' professional competencies and employability skills.

  • Participate in the design and instruction of career-related credit-bearing courses, leveraging experiential learning to connect theory with practice.

  • Undertake administrative duties related to the planning, development, and implementation of career development and survey initiatives.

Job Requirements

We are looking for senior people from the industry. They should have the required job experience, network, and industry knowledge.

 

In particular, candidates are expected to have/be:

 

  • A good university degree, with preference given to candidates holding postgraduate degrees and/or professional qualifications in relevant fields.

  • At least 10 years of work experience, with a substantial portion in career coaching or advisory roles. Experience in the education sector or working with students is highly desirable.

  • Demonstrated ability to analyze data and utilize findings to drive strategic decisions and initiatives.

  • Experience in conducting surveys or research, with a track record of achieving tangible improvements in response rates and perceptions, would be a significant advantage.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a proven ability to engage effectively with students, faculty, and industry partners.

  • Good understanding of global and local hiring/employment trends and methods

  • Passion for working with students and able to build rapport, motivate and inspire young people

  • Meticulous and able to work in a fast-paced environment, perform as a team that is highly diverse and traversing across functions, and manage multiple tasks, including administrative processes

  • Ability to travel overseas (estimated once every 3 to 6 months)

  • Certification in personality profiling tools will be an advantage
